Airflow path
Air enters the fan. Part of the flow passes through the core while the bypass stream travels around it. The compressor raises core-air pressure before combustion.
Energy release
Fuel is mixed and burned in the combustor. The hot gas expands through turbine stages that drive the compressors and fan through concentric shafts.
Thrust and efficiency
High-bypass engines use a large mass of bypass air accelerated by a smaller amount, improving propulsive efficiency for transport aircraft.
Aircraft interfaces
The engine interacts with fuel, electrical, pneumatic, fire protection, indication, control and mounting systems. Exact architecture varies by engine model.
