How the term is used
X-ray or gamma radiation passes through the item and is recorded on film or a digital detector. Material thickness, geometry and defects change the image density.
Where you may encounter it
Qualified personnel use radiography for approved internal inspections where geometry and access are suitable.
Ionizing radiation is hazardous. Controlled areas, permits and approved radiation-protection procedures are mandatory.
