Hung start

An engine start in which rotor speed stops accelerating at an abnormally low value.

How the term is used
A hung start can involve insufficient starter torque, low pneumatic pressure, high mechanical drag, fuel or control issues. Temperature may continue to rise while acceleration remains inadequate.
Where you may encounter it
Maintenance troubleshooting examines starting air, starter, engine rotation, fuel control and recorded messages.
Continued starting against abnormal parameters can damage the engine or starter. Follow approved limits and procedures.
