Hydraulic accumulator

hydraulic pressure accumulator Synonym

A pressure-storage device that uses compressed gas to store hydraulic energy.

TECHNICAL EXPLANATION

What it means technically

Performance depends on correct precharge, fluid condition, temperature and system isolation.

FULL CONTEXT

How the term is used

An accumulator can damp pressure fluctuations, provide emergency or peak-demand flow and maintain pressure for selected functions. A gas precharge is separated from hydraulic fluid by a bladder, piston or diaphragm.

MAINTENANCE CONTEXT

Where you may encounter it

Technicians use approved procedures for depressurization, precharge checks and servicing.

Safety and misunderstanding note

Stored hydraulic and gas pressure can remain after system shutdown. Verify complete isolation before maintenance.
