GVI
GVI Abbreviation · General Visual Inspection Synonym
General Visual Inspection: a visual examination from touching distance under normally available lighting and access conditions.
How the term is used
A GVI is intended to detect obvious damage, failure or irregularity. It can require mirrors, ladders or simple aids but normally does not demand extensive cleaning or specialized inspection equipment.
Where you may encounter it
Technicians scan the full specified area systematically and record findings rather than checking only known weak points.
A GVI cannot be substituted for a detailed or special detailed inspection when a higher inspection level is required.
