How the term is used
FOD can affect engines, tires, structures, flight controls, wiring and equipment. The term is also used operationally for foreign object debris, the material that can cause damage.
Where you may encounter it
Technicians inspect work areas, account for loose items and report both debris and resulting damage.
Small objects can cause major engine or system damage. Never ignore unexplained debris or missing hardware.
